Custom Filter in EP 2009

Hi,

Does anyone know how to create a custom filter for EP 2009? I'd like to use the existing filter functionality on grids and lookups, but to change it's state to "active" and choose the filter field automatically. So that user can fill the filter value straight away easilly.
