AX 2012 and ActiveX (ocx)

What could be the possible cause for AX 2012 Client not to use an ActiveX component. I can add it to a form, it shows up in the list, but when I try to run the form, it says the Class ID (some GUID) does not exist on the system. I just added it from a list I assume is being generated from the system. The ClassID is correctly listed in the registry.

At the same time, on the same machine, I can open Excel (32b), hit Alt+F11, create a form and drop the ActiveX on that form and discover all its methods and beauty. It is evident the component is there and is installed but still AX seems unable to load it.

What can possibly unlink AX Client from ActiveX components installed? Operating system is Windows 2008 R2.
